Now Recruiting Interns to Join The Tobacco Use Reduction Force (TURF)!

February 9, 2011

The Youth Leadership Institute is now recruiting Youth Advocate Interns for our Tobacco Use Reduction Force (TURF) Program! TURF is committed to protecting the city’s health by reducing the impact of tobacco across SF, especially marginalized communities. In partnership with youth leaders and community leaders, TURF mobilizes SF residents and advocates for changes in tobacco laws and regulations.

We’re looking for young people 16-24 who are interested in tobacco prevention, learning community organizing skills, as well as how to work on a policy campaign. It’s a 20-month commitment, they meet once a week, and get paid $2,400 for their participation.

Tell the Board of Supervisors: Support the Fee on Alcohol!

September 9, 2010

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors is anticipated to vote this coming week on the proposed fee on alcohol. This fee, charged on alcohol at distribution, would recover over $17 million per year to fund city services that address the local impacts of alcohol use (such as police and fire services, treatment, and prevention). Costs to the consumer have been projected at less than 5 cents per drink.

Please take a minute to let the Board of Supervisors know that this issue is important to you by sending them a letter:

The Youth Leadership Institute has provided a template message – feel free to edit with your own thoughts and experiences around this issue.
